All MEDCOAST events are sponsored
on project basis by various organizations. MEDCOAST 93 Conference was
sponsored/supported by 16 international and Turkish organizations including; the Council
of Europe, UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan, UNDP, International Coastal and Ocean
Organization (ICO), the Association EUROCOAST, and the European Union for Coastal
Conservation (EUCC).
MEDCOAST 95 Conference was jointly organized by the MEDCOAST Secretariat (Middle East
Technical University, Ankara, Turkey) and Local Organizing Committee (led by Laboratori
d'Enginyeria Maritima, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain). I t was
sponsored/supported by 27 organizations and institutions, including UNEP - Mediterranean
Action Plan, UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, the European Union, the
GEF Black Sea Environmental Programme, International EMECS Center (Kobe, Japan),
International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean (CIESM), and
environmental and/or coastal NGO's, including WWF, IUCN, EUCC, EUROCOAST and ICO.
MEDCOAST 97 Conference was jointly organized by the MEDCOAST Secretariat and
Euro-Mediterranean Center on Insular Coastal Dynamics (ICOD) and supported by 11
international and Turkish organizations including; association EUROCOAST, EUCC, ICCOPS,
ICO, CIESM, IUCN, JCC, JOCM, Urban Harbours Institute (Univ. of Massachusetts-Boston,
USA), KAY and WWF. It was sponsored by 8 international and 6 local organizations
including; the European Community, the MED-CAMPUS Programme, GEF Black Sea Environmental
Programme Coordinating Unit, IOC-UNESCO, International EMECS Center (Kobe, Japan), IOI ,
MAP-UNEP, METU (Turkey), TUBITAK, ICoD, Foundation for International Studies (Univ.
of Malta) , Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Environment, National Tourism
Organisation, Planning Authority of Malta and Air Malta .
MEDCOAST 99 Conference was jointly organized by the MEDCOAST Secretariat and EMECS and
supported by 11 international and Turkish organizations including EUROCOAST, Coastal
Zone Management Center (The Netherlands), EUCC, ICCOPS, CIESM, IOI, IUCN, JCC, JOCM, Urban
Harbours Institute (Univ. of Massachusetts -Boston, USA), WWF. It was sponsored by 6
international and 7 local organizations including; the European Community, International
EMECS Center (Kobe, Japan), IOC-UNESCO, MAP-UNEP, PAP RAC, PEW Fellows Program in Marine
Conservation, Promotion Fund of Prime Ministry, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of
Tourism, Antalya Municipality, METU (Ankara, Turkey), TUBITAK and KAY.
WIND and WAVE CLIMATE 99 Conference was supported and sponsored by international
and local organizations including; NATO Science for Stability Programme (SfS) as the
main sponsor, METU, British Council in Ankara, Turkish National Committee on Coastal
Management and Turkish Ministry of Tourism.
The International Workshop MED & Black Sea ICZM 96 was initially envisaged jointly
by the MEDCOAST Secretariat and the Mediterranean Action Plan, Priority Actions Programme
Regional Activity Center, MAP - PAP RAC (Split, Croatia). At the planning stage, the
European Center for Insular Coastal Dynamics, ICoD, (Valletta, Malta), and the GEF Black
Sea Environmental Programme, GEF BSEP, joined the organizers of the Workshop. It was
supported by the Turkish Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Tourism. Generous
funding was provided by the Promotion Fund of Turkish Prime Ministry. British Council in
Ankara, and the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council were also among the
sponsors.
The International Workshop on the Applications of Remote Sensing was
jointly organized by Space Applications Institute, Nat. Inst. for Coastal and
Marine Management and MEDCOAST.
MEDCOAST Institute 94 & 95, were organized through the financial support of the
European Community (the Med-Campus program). The third successive event, MEDCOAST
Institute 96, was realized through the sponsorship of the Turkish Prime Ministry, as well
as a number of smaller sponsors. MEDCOAST Institute 97 was sponsored by PEW Fellows
Program in Marine Conservation, Ministry of Environment (Turkey), UNDP, MAP/UNEP, PAP/RAC,
METU, Ocean Engineering Research Center
MEDCOAST Institute 99 was sponsored by PAP/RAC, PEW Fellows Program in Marine
Conservation, UNESCO IOC, METU and Ocean Engineering Research Center.
"The First International Workshop/Training Program on Beach Management in the
Mediterranean and the Black Sea" was organized by MEDCOAST. Two major sponsors were
the ICSC-World Laboratory (Land-3 Project) (Erice, Italy and Lausanne, Switzerland) and
the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Insular Coastal Dynamics (Valletta, Malta). The Second
Workshop/Training Program was organized jointly by MEDCOAST and the Euro-Mediterranean
Center on Insular Coastal Dynamics (Valletta, Malta). It was also sponsored by UNESCO IOC.
The Third Workshop/Training Program; "Beach Management 97" was organized jointly
by MEDCOAST, Bulgarian Coastal Association, Black Sea Environmental Programme (BSEP), and
UNESCO IOC. Beach Management 99 was jointly organized by Euro-Mediterranean Centre on
Insular Coastal Dynamics (ICOD) and MEDCOAST and it was supported by Department of
Environment (Government of Malta), International Ocean Institute (IOI) and Pew Fellows
Program In Marine Conservation.
The collaborated research project, on the topic of "A questionnaire study on beach
users' priorities", in which University of Glamorgan (Wales, UK), Middle East
Technical University (Turkey), Catalonian University of Technology (Spain), and University
of M alta (Malta) are partners, is sponsored by the British Council and the Welsh Office
in addition to these universities.
The comprehensive collaborated project which is on the topic of "The wind and wave
climatology of the Black Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean" is led by the Middle East
Technical University. Seven institutions from four Black Sea countries contributed to the
Black Sea component. This project is sponsored generously by the Science for Stability
Program of NATO, in addition to the collaborating institutions. |
